Narrator:
It was a hot afternoon. The air was very still. Tom sat in the classroom. He tried to read his book, but he was very bored. He wanted to play.

Narrator:
Tom took a small box out of his pocket. A little tick was inside. He put the bug on the flat desk. It started to crawl.

Joe: (Whispering)
"Hey, Tom! What is that?"

Tom:
"It is a tick. Look at him go!"

Narrator:
Tom used his chalk. He drew a line down the middle of the desk.

Tom:
"Don't touch him, Joe. As long as he is on my side, you cannot touch him."

Joe:
"But he is on my side now! Let me stir him up!"

Tom:
"No, no! Let him alone."

Narrator:
The two boys were noisy. Suddenly, everything was quiet. The teacher stood behind them! Whack! Whack! He hit Tom and Joe. They went back to their seats. They felt very sad.
